Mayor

Whether you are a new move into our area or a longtime resident, I would like to take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate that you call Somerville home. Throughout the years our town has had plenty to offer its townspeople and it is this council’s desire to keep the tradition going.

In 1837 funds were appropriated to construct what would become Alabama’s oldest existing courthouse. This courthouse served as the Morgan County seat for most of the nineteenth century, and if those walls could talk I imagine they would have plenty to say. The courthouse is the centerpiece of the Town of Somerville.

I would encourage anyone to take a stroll around our town if you are hungry for a taste of history. If you should find yourself at our historical courthouse or maybe at the old cemetery viewing epitaphs on pre-civil war markers, you will soon realize the history that flows from the Town of Somerville.

Although we are very proud of the history of our town, we also find ourselves looking to the future. With the first phase of our sewer project completed, many opportunities will be opened for our town. We will soon see Phase II of this project accepting bids, and the possibilities at the intersection of Highway 67 and 36 are very promising.

I am always open to ideas that can improve the way of life for present and future families of Somerville. I will always covet your prayers and suggestions, so let’s keep holding on to our history while we continue to reach into the future.

Darren L. Tucker, Mayor
Town of Somerville
